Techniques
Byzantine iconography values the combination of different techniques - such as the use of gold leaf, which brings symbolic radiance, and egg tempera painting, which gives the images chromatic variety. Combined, these practices harmonize light, color and texture, creating images that connect the visible to the invisible.

Levkas
Levkas is a traditional plaster that serves as a base for painting, consisting of chalk, water and animal glue, usually made from rabbit skin.
Gilding
Among the various gilding techniques are oil gilding, water-gilding, chrysography, shell gold, punching, granulation, incision, indentation, pastiglia, sgrafitto and meccatura.

Egg Tempera
Egg tempera is an ancient painting technique, used especially in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, which combines egg yolk, wine and pigments.
